Edmonton: the gateway to the north
Highlights on why Edmonton
- Edmonton is among one of the fastest growth regions and the 6th largest city in Canada.
- In 2005, Edmonton is expected to post a robust 3.6 growth rate. The Conference Board forecasts that the Canadian economy will grow by 3.0 per cent in 2004 and 3.2 per cent in 2005.
- High oil and gas prices and a surging U.S. economy are in place for Greater Edmonton to continue its economic roll. For these reasons it is well positioned to continue in 2004 as one of the top economic growth leaders in urban Canada. (Greater Edmonton Economic Outlook 2004)
- The City of Edmonton Planning and Development department is forecasting 57,100 jobs to be created between 2003 and 2008.
- The population of Edmonton Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) is expected to climb over the one million mark in early 2005 and there is expected to be a total increase of 70,000 people in Edmonton CMA by 2008.
- Edmonton will be hosting a variety of events throughout 2004 and 2005 including the 2004 Canadian Skate Championships, 2005 World Masters Games and the 2004 Juno Awards. (EDE Tourism)
